1st Rutland Beer Festival visit
Friday 24th June 2011
A few members, who were unable to make the 'official' trip on the Saturday, set off in high expectation from Hinckley station on the Friday. Some of us were able to make an unexpected, and fortunately brief, visit to Stamford on the way thanks to a non-operating train door at Oakham!
The venue, Oakham Museum, is superb with beers mixed in with the agricultural exhibits in a semi-outdoor situation. There were 45 beers on offer plus 10 ciders and 4 perries, of these 11 were festival specials and all were clearly listed in the very professional programme.
After a suitable period of 'relaxed ale tasting' and an excellent curry, we managed an uneventful journey home. I can see the Rutland Festival becoming another annual visit for us. Well done to all.
