Chris has a Busy Weekend
25/26 June 2011
Cherry Tree, Catthorpe
On Friday evening I went along to the beerfest at the Cherry Tree and found (as well as half of Rugby CAMRA) an exceedingly splendid range of ales available; 18 to be exact. Joining the beers available on the bar were beers ranging from 3.6% (Summer Breeze from Quartz) to 4.7% (Azatec Gold from Slaters) with beers from Country Life, Bays, O’Hanlons, Rudgate, Skinners, Backyard, Saltaire, Backyard, Newmans, and Elgoods all available.
Lime Kilns, Burbage
The weather did start promising but it didn’t last. I arrived at the Lime Kilns as the last of the rain (or so was hoped) fell and only the general dampness led to the first of the afternoon's entertainment being moved indoors. It worked – the duet, one on fiddle/violin and the other on guitar and mandolin. Then the crowd moved outside for the more loud music. Here the first band played REM covers.
The beers? 10 were either on pump or available on tap from downstairs. Mainly from the Marston’s/Jennings/Wychwood stable, I found the Triple fff Moondance to be especially more-ish. As well as the 10 beers available there were 6 ciders.
Back to the entertainment and the third act was another band who also played in the garden. I didn’t hear all they had to offer and I am not sure whether there was any more on offer as it was at this point I took my leave.
Well done to Gary and all who made an enjoyable afternoon.
