Burton Bridge Brewery Visit

Wednesday 21st October 2009

A group of 29 eventually overcame one or two problems with bus pick up points, to arrive at Burton Bridge at about 8:15pm. The majority of us were 2nd Hinckley Beer Festival volunteers, for whom the trip was a 'thank you' for their efforts.

We split into two parties, one played skittles while the other had a brewery tour led by Bruce, the brewer. The parties then swapped over, so everyone who was interested got a brewery tour.

The owners of Burton Bridge, Geoff & Bruce, started brewing on the site in 1982 after working at the Ind Coope Brewery in Romford. The first brew was Bridge Bitter (4.2% ABV ), but now, due to demand, there are 14 regular beers on offer. plus some seasonal specials.

Deliveries are made to within 35 miles of Burton each week (Nottingham , Birmingham, Stoke and Leicester). Each week a two day trip is made to a different part of the country on an eight week cycle.  Beer swaps are made with other brewers and deliveries are made to freehouses.

Bottled beer is also exported to USA and Canada.

Burton Bridge is part of our LocAle scheme & their beers can be found from time to time in our LocAle pubs

An excellent selection of hot foods was then consumed while the beer sampling continued.

We departed just after 11pm, when 'time' had called.

Our thanks to Bruce for the tours & to everyone at the Burton Bridge pub for their food & beers.
