25th Rugby Beer Festival Visit Wednesday 14th May 2008 The trusty bus collected our party of 12 and we arrived at the 'Members Evening' by 8:00pm. This was the Silver Jubilee Festival celebrating 25 years of increasing beer choice. There were a few Rugby members present who remembered the first Festival at the Oakfield Club. The members evening, on the opening day, was a new idea & it seemed to work very well from our point of view: all the beers were available & the room was adequately populated without being overcrowded. There were about 65 beers listed, many from local breweries such as Atomic, the Rugby Brewing Co., Church End, Warwickshire, Tunnel, Nobby's, Purity & others. There was a Festival Special, a mild at 4.7%, brewed by Dowbridge at Catthorpe. In addition there was a selection of bottled beers from around the world and also some ciders, mostly from Herefordshire. The Festival closed at 10:00pm so we made our way round the corner to the Victoria Inn, home of the Atomic Brewery where a further 13 beers awaited. We arrived in the middle of a 'Quiz Night' and several of party were able to assist the team in the bar with some answers - a few of which were even correct, although despite certain predictions, 'John Lennon' was not the answer to any of the questions! The bus arrived to take us home at about 11:00pm, rounding off an enjoyable evening.
