July
Evening Mystery Tour
15th July
2008
After our usual circuitous
collection route, our happy band headed off northward, on a lovely sunny
evening, & bravely crossed over the border into Loughborough & North Leicester's
area.
The
pubs for this trip were chosen for us by David, our Chairman. The first call
being the Plough, Ashby de la Zouch, a pleasant Free House that took a little
finding. After some initial problems with new barrels we were able to sample
Grainstore 1050 & Bateman's XXXB. Pedigree & Bass were also available. After a
pleasant hour sitting in the sunshine we were back to the bus & off to the next
pub.
This was probably the star of the
evening for most of us - the New Inn at Peggs Green. Another Free House, that
has been in the same family for several generations. It is an unspoiled drinkers
pub, full of memorabilia & interesting artefacts. It is ideally situated as a
stop off on the arduous journey to or from East Midlands Airport! Deuchars IPA,
Bass and Pedigree were available & in fine form.

The
final call was the King's Arms at Coleorton where a very welcome buffet had been
organised to compliment the Holt's Bitter, Black Sheep, Pedigree & Timothy
Taylor Landlord beers. The landlord here is Paul Jarvis, known to some of our
members from his time at The Belper Arms, Newton Burgoland.
An excellent evening visiting 3 interesting pubs that were new to many of our
members. Our thanks to Chairman David for organising the evening.
