Phill follows in the footsteps of the great Oliver Reed

Malta - November 2007

It was time for a short winter break, to get away from this cold, bleak climate of ours, so Lorraine and I headed off to sunnier climes, Malta. An island in the Mediterranean sea where hopefully sun, sea and sand would prevail. This is beginning to sound like an article for a travel show so I really should get down to business.
Their local brew is called Cisk, and is of Lager appearance. Well after a few glasses it really did not taste too bad. The only alternative that I found was John Smiths, and that was in what can only be described as a shrine to the late Oliver Reed.
This pub can be found on a side street of the main street, and it is called "The Pub", Ollie's last pub. As you enter you get the feeling, with all the memorabilia, that this great drinker is still there. On the wall is a cutting from the local press showing what he consumed on the day of his demise. Truly awesome. Not that I encourage heavy drinking, you understand. This establishment is also frequented by visiting members of foreign nation's naval ships, so there is also a collection naval memorabilia.
I could go on about beer being consumed in different bars and restaurants, but it would be pointless as there is only one beer to drink.
Malta was a nice break, and I did not find it cheap, but at least I have tried a new brew, and I would recommend it being tried in The Pub.
