Visit to the 28th Burton Summer Beer Festival Friday 21st September 2007 10 members gathered at Hinckley Station to catch the 10:28, getting into Burton at about 11:45 just in time to join the queue for the 12:00 opening of the festival. This year the festival was celebrating 25 years of micro brewing in Burton. Initially there was just the Burton Bridge Brewery, but now there are also Tower, Old Cottage, Blythe, Quartz, Tollgate & the latest edition, Black Hole. In addition to beers from these breweries, out of a total of about 100, there were about 15 beers from Northern Ireland & the Irish Republic. Also available was Hobson's Mild, CAMRA's current Champion Beer of Britain. Our group was disappointed to learn that the Thornbridge beers, listed in the programme, had failed to arrive. However, the festival seemed busier & the food was more varied than previous years. A good time was had by all. we finished our day with a visit to the ever popular Cooper's Tavern before catching the train home at about 6:00pm. The trip home, printed from the internet, called for a change of trains at Water Orton, something I had never seen offered before. Despite many misgivings about getting off a perfectly good train into the rain at Water Orton, we summoned up all our courage and did so! Even the 3 trainspotters were somewhat bemused to hear we were changing trains here, but assured us there was a train due. Our concerns proved groundless and the Hinckley train turned spot on time! The next Burton Festival has moved dates from January and will now be on March 28th & 29th 2008 Photos:
