Pub Tour - November 2006
On Wednesday 22nd November 2006, the branch visited pubs in the
Market Bosworth area.

c1919 - Wheatsheaf & Black Horse Inns, Market Bosworth
2006 - The Wheatsheaf is now a shop & the Black Horse is a restaurant.
First call was the White Swan at Stoke Golding to gather the last 4 members.
The beer here was to its usual high standard with Adnams Bitter & Broadside
available along with Everards
Pitch Black a 4.3% Stout.
With
the bus now full, we headed off to our next point of call, the Hercules,
Sutton Cheney. Tetley Bitter, Pedigree & Bass were available.
Next
call was the King William IV in Market Bosworth. Many of you will remember this
was the pub where we unsuccessfully opposed a planning application for
conversion to residential use. However, at present, the pub seems to continue to
thrive. The beers available were Pedigree, Tiger & High Dyke from the
Oldershaw Brewery at Grantham. The High Dyke proved particularly popular.
Our
final call of the evening was the GBG2007 listed Olde Red Lion Hotel in Park
Street. They had an excellent selection of ales available. The guest beers were
Black Sheep & Abbeydale Absolution. Here, not unexpectedly, the Absolution
proved to be very popular.
