Greetings,
Comrade
Colbourne and I attended the 30th Loughborough festival on the Saturday, and a
very pleasant day was had.
A selection of 60+ Beers, in a pleasant hall with good English fare.
The beers on offer included Adnams, Iceni, Green Jack, Otter, Woodfordes, Wolf,
along with local Brews from Shardlow, Oakham, and the old local sponsor
Everards, who’s beers were pulled traditionally.
I took the opportunity of introducing my daughter and her friend (both students)
to the delights of this truly British occasion and to my delight they are both
now looking forward to the next one that they can find time to attend.
After 5 hours there we moved on to the Hobgoblin in town were more consumption
took place of Pedigree closely followed by an English meal of Chicken Madras and
trimmings.
A visit to the Swan in the Rushes followed and a taste of Strawberry Beer,
brewed in Belgium, (where else) and to my surprise it was good, not sweet. It
had the appearance of a smoothie, but at 5% slightly better after effects. The
sensible ones amongst us drank real ale, but unfortunately old age is creeping
up and I can not recall what it was, other than to say I enjoyed it.
To sum
up Loughborough, Good Beer, Pleasant Food, Made to feel welcome by Loughborough
CAMRA. Who look forward to meeting more of us at Leicester. Then a visit to
couple of local pubs, to round the day off. What more could a man want. (Answers
on a postcard)
