Visit to Long Itchington -18th July 2006
An almost full minibus arrived in Long Itchington at about 8:00pm.
Maps
were provided and members went off in their own chosen directions, some even
found the pubs!
I started at the furthest away - I've been on these trips before! - The Green
Man in
Church Road. Mark, the Landlord had only moved in the day before and actually
lives in Hinckley! He admitted it would take him a little while to get the
cellar to his liking - we wish him well in his new venture & will look him up
again at the next opportunity.
On
to the Harvester, a free house offering Old Hooky & two guest beers, one from
Wye Valley. This pub has been in the GBG for the last 21 consecutive years.
Time to venture to the canal, via a footpath over a couple of fields. The Two
Boats was first, a Punch Tavern, on the towing path side, offering
Worthington Ale, Draught Bass, Charles Wells
Bombardier & Greene King Abbot Ale.
Next, over the canal to the Cuttle where an excellent pint of Hancocks HB was
available.
It was now 10:00 so time to move on, this time to the Duck on the Pond. A
large mock Tudor pub, formerly the Jolly Fisherman now owned by Greene King. The
emphasis here is obviously food & the menu looked very tempting - maybe another
day.
 Last
pub, and nearest to the bus, was the Buck &
Bell. Reopened last year after an extensive rebuild following many years of
closure. Food is served most of the time. It was a pleasant surprise to find a
Church End beer available here.
A pleasant evening was had by all. We sat outside most of the pubs due to the
weather, let's hope we can continue to do so for a few more months!
