2010 Pub of the Year Presentation

Tuesday 20th April 2010

This is the first time Hinckley & Bosworth CAMRA has made a Pub of the Year award. Following the recent  voting the winner was the Elephant & Castle at Thurlaston, closely followed by the New Plough Inn, Hinckley. Our congratulations go to Tim & Lisa at the Elephant & also to Louise at the Plough.

The presentation of the PotY certificate was held on Tuesday 20th April when Tim & Lisa had organised a 'Meet the Brewer' evening, with Everards Head Brewer Mark Tetlow, and one of Lisa's famous pies for supper.

There was a really good turnout of both CAMRA members and locals to enjoy the evening. After a group photo outside, when the main route through Thurlaston was blocked while Martin, the Everards photographer, tried to get everyone in shot, we were treated to an excellent talk by Mark about the history and methods of brewing and Everards. Mark had kindly brought along 5 pins of the Everards range - Beacon, Tiger, Original, Sunchaser & Flourish - these were all vigorously tasted until they were no more! While we were sampling the beers, Lisa served up one of her famous pies with chips & gravy.

During the evening there were several presentations made, firstly by Tim & Lisa to each member of their staff to thank them for their efforts - well deserved indeed! Tim also presented £201 t the Leicester Royal Infirmary Haematology Day Ward, £100 to the Thurlaston Carnival Committee & £100 to H&B CAMRA.

Finally our Chairman, David Finn, presented the Pub of the Year 2010 certificate to Tim & Lisa.
