Dear Colleague,

ROBIN HOOD BEER FESTIVAL

After over 30 years the annual Nottingham Beer Festival is moving to a new central location in a much more attractive setting. It will also take place a week earlier than before – Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th October. To celebrate the changes the Festival is also being renamed as the Robin Hood Beer Festival.

Our new venue will be under marquees in the beautiful grounds of Nottingham Castle.  Because we no longer have a problem with restrictive fire limits, not to mention a far more atmospheric venue, we expect to attract at least 10,000 visitors and possibly as many as 15,000, which would be double that of previous years.

As the Festival is so much larger we have a desperate need for more staff and we would be grateful if you would bring this letter to the attention of as many of your members as possible. If they could spare us just a couple of hours to help serve customers or carry out any other of the numerous jobs it would really help to make a difference. Volunteers will of course receive the usual benefits such as free admission and festival glass, plus (based on hours worked) beer tokens and food vouchers. Also some accommodation deals are available, see attached.

Incidentally there will be entertainment all three evenings on the Victorian bandstand, which should be quite a spectacle. This is in a separate area from the main bars, with its own beer tent, and so those who prefer a quieter time will not be troubled by intrusive music, giving the best of both worlds.

If any of your members would like to volunteer there is a form attached that can be completed and returned either by email or post. Alternatively they can just email alanward@nottinghamcamra.org or phone 0115 929 7896. However, whilst it is helpful to advise us in advance, anyone turning up at the last minute can still volunteer (and gain free admission!) we really will be grateful of their services.

The Castle grounds are right in the heart of the City and easily accessible by road, rail, bus and the Nottingham Tram system. CAMRA branches who are able to arrange bus trips to the Festival will be given access to the fast track admissions system, (prior notice would be helpful,) although it would be hoped that branches taking advantage of this would ensure that some attending the event would be prepared to help serve the beers and ciders.

Full details of the festival and accommodation are attached.

Yours sincerely

Andrew C Ludlow

Secretary, Nottingham CAMRA

NOTTINGHAM ROBIN HOOD BEER AND CIDER FESTIVAL

Indications are that numbers attending the Robin Hood Beer Festival are likely to exceed the original estimates of 10,000. Whilst this is good news, as it will ensure that the Festival becomes a major event in the East Midlands, it does pose further problems with regard to volunteers to help run the Festival.

Staff are needed to help serve beer, cider and wine and also to assist in other areas such as selling glasses; helping on the door, shop etc. All staff gain FREE admission to the Festival and are given a FREE glass plus, depending on the hours they work, vouchers for meals and beer. Whilst staff are required during the opening hours of the event volunteers to help set up the Festival are also needed on Monday 6th; Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th October.
